Digital Orthoimagery, McLeod County, Minnesota, Spring 2018
Abstract:
Ayres Associates provided McLeod County, Minnesota with digital, color orthoimagery serives in 2018. The aerial imagery was collected on May 6th and 7th using a Leica DMCIII sensor mounted in a fixed-wing aircraft. Aerial imagery was collected to support 0.33 foot ground sample distance (GSD) orthoimagery at 1"=100' map scale to meet ASPRS Class II standards with a horizontal accuracy of +/-1.6 feet at a 95% confidence level. Resultant orthoimagery was rectified to a DEM surface created from existing county LiDAR data. Orthoimagery was delivered in client specified GeoTiff and MrSID tiles according to a 5,000' x 5,000' tiling structure and a project-wide MrSID mosiac.

Images were color corrected to match adjacent flight lines. The resulting imagery was globally tilted in terms of contrast and color to form a radiometrically consistent orthophoto mosaic.

These data cover the entirety of the 2018 McLeod County Orthophotography Initiative.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy:
Lineage:
Ground control consisted of photo identifiable surveyed points. The imagery was collected using a Leica DMCIII at 9.5cm GSD. Image quality was verified during the post flight review phase. Factors considered during this review included, but were not limited to, the presence of cloud cover, contrails, light conditions and sun flare. A rigorous Aerotriangulation process was performed and supplemented by the photo ID survey points. The triangulated strips were rectified using a DEM surface created from existing state LiDAR data. The imagery was mosaicked using manual seamlines generation and tone/color balanced to a project-wide consistency. Client specified tiles were extracted from the mosaic and each individual tile was reviewed for artifacts and anomalies and adjusted as part of quality control procedures. The images were reviewed for rectification problems such as bridge displacements and seamline issues caused by the underlying digitial elevation model. When necessary, local corrections to the imagery were performed to minimize such effects.
