Title: Lidar derived Cover 3m 1st mask, Minnesota

Abstract: Lidar derived Cover 3m 1st mask is a raster dataset (at 20 meter spatial resolution) that omits areas where less than 10% of the first returns within that area pixel are above 3m from the ground. Masking removes areas that are non-forest, as well as areas of regeneration, typically in the seedling and sapling stages of development.

Purpose: The non CT Lidar derived Forest Inventory Models (i.e. AGB, BAWHT, Grs Vol, Max Ht, Net Vol, QMD, SBA are not cover type dependent) are masked based on two raster datasets, 1) Lidar derived Cover 3m 1st mask; and 2) non CT v2/v3 Forest Inventory Models mask, a raster dataset that omits areas in the non-cover type dependent forest inventory models that have negative values or NoData. The negative values in a forest inventory model correspond to areas where lidar returns are absent, or are in a condition that was not sampled during field collection. The Forest Inventory Model raster outputs are derived directly from linear regression models using lidar derived FUSION grid metric inputs extracted at 20 m resolution, and the final outputs are masked using these datasets. The CT Forest Inventory Models (i.e., age and site index are cover type dependent) are masked based on one parameter, 1) Lidar derived Cover 3m 1st mask.

The Cloud Metrics statistics are calculated using elevation and intensity values. CRR is a quantitative descriptor of the relative surface morphology of the canopy from altimetry observation, calculated as ((mean-min)/(max-min)). The higher the CRR value, the more local variation occurs in the canopy, whereas lower CRR values represent less variation.
