| Title | Minnesota Restorable Wetland Decision Support - Habitat Benefits | |||
| Abstract | The Habitat Benefits decision layer is an index of habitat quality across the landscape. The index predicts potential habitat benefits that would be enhanced or presevered through wetland restoration or protection. The index is a grid (30 meter resolution) that was developed using the following GIS inputs:
- Sites of biodiversity significance - A multi-faceted assessment of the land for its importance from a regional perspective in terms of biodiversity and ecosystem function. Higher values indicate higher biodiversity significance. - Species of greatest conservations need (SGCN) - The number of SGCN for which this land may be habitat. Higher values indicate a higher number of SGCN species potentially using this land. - Bird potential habitat - Probable number of bird species (from a set of 17) using this land. Higher values indicate more of these 17 species using this land. - Weighted habitat protection level - Number of terrestrial vertebrate species potentially using this land weighted by the current level of habitat protection statewide for each species. Higher values indicate more species potentially using this land weighted as described. Funding The development of this data was supported through the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. | |||
| Purpose | The Habitat Benefits decision layer was developed with the purpose of identifying areas likely to have elevated habitat quality through wetland restoration. The decision layer also identifies areas that already have high habitat quality and would benefit from protection. The decision layer predicts habitat benefits levels across the entire Minnesota extent. | |||
