Title:
Cisco Refuge Lakes, Minnesota
Abstract:
This layer shows Minnesota's cisco refuge lakes. These lakes were identified by the University of Minnesota and Minnesota DNR Fisheries Research (Xing Fang, Liping Jiang, Peter C. Jacobson, Heinz G. Stefan, Shoeb R. Alam & Donald L. Pereira (2012): Identifying Cisco Refuge Lakes in Minnesota under Future Climate Scenarios, Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 141:6, 1608-1621). They are deep and clear enough that they will still provide suitable coldwater fish habitat even after significant climate warming. Cisco refuge lakes are classified as Tier 1 (the deepest and coldest with exceptional coldwater fish habitat - predicted TDO3<11 degrees C) and Tier 2 (less deep and cold, but still suitable coldwater habitat - predicted TDO3>11 and <17 degrees C).
Purpose:
To support conservation planning, fisheries management, research and other resource-related activities with impact on cisco lakes.

Table Detail:
cisco_refuge_lakes - feature class table (DNR Fisheries)Field Name | Valid Values | Definition | Definition Source |
---|
DNR_HYDRO_ID | 1 to 35000 | Unique GIS record number of waterbody features in DNR Hydrography SDE - Open Water Features | DNR Fisheries |
FW_ID | enumerated | A unique Fisheries Waterbody ID for joining/linking polygons to DNR Fisheries Lake Survey DB (Oracle). FW_IDs are assigned based on how the waterbody is managed by DNR Fisheries (i.e., an FW_ID may correspond to an entire basin '00' or to a specific sub-basin '01','02',etc. | DNR Fisheries |
| 1-18000 | A valid Fisheries Waterbody ID | DNR Fisheries Lake Survey DB |
| 88888 | A "dummy" Fisheries Waterbody ID representing an alternate representation of a basin (implemented in SDE Dataset only) | |
| 99999 | A "dummy" Fisheries Waterbody ID representing a non-MN portion of a border water | |
DOWLKNUM | - | Waterbody ID per DNR Ecological and Water Resources (EWR) Division's LAKESDB database; the DOWLKNUM may end in"00" (entire basin) or "01","02", etc. (sub-basin) | DNR EWR LAKESDB |
