Section 1: Overview
Originator:Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
Title:
Designated Wildlife Lakes
Abstract:
This resource contains two feature classes: a polygon feature class of Designated Wildlife Lakes in Minnesota, and a point feature class with the polygons converted to points. Lakes were selected out from the DNR 100k Lakes and Rivers shapefile.
Purpose:
To provide a spatial representation of formally designated wildlife lakes by the DNR Commissioner, as set forth by Minnesota Statutes 97A.101 subdivision 2. This designation allows the DNR to temporarily lower lake levels periodically to improve wildlife habitat and regulate motorized watercraft and recreational vehicles on the lake.

Logical Consistency:
Data are topologically correct using ArcGIS 9.x. All polygons are closed and lines intersect where intended.
Completeness:
This layer is updated as new basins are designated.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy:
Source layer lake_wildpy2: Horizontal positional accuracy is based originally on 100k USGS source quadrangles, and has been improved by on-screen digitizing over USGS 1991-1992 DOQ imagery
