Title: Watershed Health Assessment Scores

Abstract: The Watershed Health Index approach identifies and analyzes data that characterizes the principal components of watershed health at the Major Watershed and Catchment scales. For each of the principal components (Geomorphology, Connectivity, Hydrology, Biology, and Water Quality) indices and underlying metrics have been developed that describe the relative health of the system. The generated values are scaled from 0 to 100 to provide a statewide comparable index of relative health risk.

The Watershed Health Assessment Scores can also be accessed through a web application; learn more about the Watershed Health Assessment Framework at: https://gisdata.mn.gov/dataset/whaf

Purpose: The watershed assessment scores in this dataset can help in making decisions for watershed health management.

Associated Data Sets: This dataset is managed as a table joined to the MNDNR Watershed Suite. For information on attributes associated with the watershed suite refer to the watershed metadata

Section 2: Data Quality

Attribute Accuracy: Base attributes were derived from wshd_lev04py3.

Logical Consistency: Data have been checked using ESRI ArcView 10.2.x

Completeness: Data exist statewide.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy: Source layer wshd_lev04py3 and wshd_lev08py3: No quantitative studies of horizontal positional accuracy exist for the data. Although positional accuracy of watershed delineations can be arbitrary, accuracy of these data can be reasonably estimated based on the characteristics of all source materials and processing techniques to be 100 feet (30 meters) from correct position.

Vertical Positional Accuracy: Source layer wshd_lev04py3 and wshd_lev08py3: No quantitative studies of vertical positional accuracy exist for the data.

Lineage: The base attributes were copied from wshd_lev04py3. AREA attribute was calculated using ArcView 9.3.x's "Calculate Geometry" function.

Each of the index and metric attributes were copied from component scores shapefiles to create this master table. Please have a look at the entity attribute section for explanation of what each attribute name represents. Details on the methods used to calculate indices and metrics can be found at the Watershed Health Assessment website: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/whaf/about/scores/index.html

Overview: This dataset is managed as a join to the MNDNR watershed suite. The Major_Scores table is joined to dnr_watersheds_dnr_level_04_huc_08_majors on the MAJOR field. The Catchment_Scores table is joined to dnr_watersheds_dnr_level_08_all_catchments on the CATCH_ID field.

Attribute descriptions for fields associated with the watershed feature data can be found at: https://resources.gisdata.mn.gov/pub/gdrs/data/pub/us_mn_state_dnr/geos_dnr_watersheds/metadata/metadata.html

If working with this data in the file geodatabase structure with the provided layer files, a number of the fields have been hidden from view to reduce clutter. These fields can be made visible again through the "Layer Properties" window within the "Fields" menu.
