Title:
Native Vegetation at the Time of the Public Land Survey 1847-1907
Abstract:
Native vegetation of Minnesota based on Marschner's original analysis of Public Land Survey notes and landscape patterns. Marschner compiled his results in map format, which was subsequently captured in digital format.
Purpose:
To analyze native vegetation patterns for the purpose of determining natural community potential, productivity indexes, and patterns of natural disturbance
Time Period of Content Date:
1895
Currentness Reference:
Data were captured from the recompiled version of the Marschner Map, date unknown

Section 2: Data Quality
Attribute Accuracy:
Source table PVEG_MRSCHPY1.DBF: Existing polygons reflect Marschner's original interpretations, which were based on incomplete information. This data cannot be considered accurate or definitive.
Logical Consistency:
Data are topolocially correct using ARC/INFO 8.0.1. All polygons are closed and lines intersect where intended.
Completeness:
These data have significant omissions when compared to Marschner's original map. Several thousand small polygons are thought to have been omitted, principally in the prairie and transitional forest areas of the state.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy:
Source layer prvegpy1: Qualitative positional accuracy comparisons between water bodies in this data and the same features in larger scale sources suggests a range of positional offsets in the range of 500-700 feet as common, with the direction of the offset being variable. This is an expected deviation considering the 1:1M digitizing scale.
