Mesabi Range Underground Mine Parcels
Abstract:
The Mesabi Range Underground Mine Parcels coverage contains Public Land Survey (PLS) data for documented land parcels/properties associated with underground natural iron ore mines on the Mesabi Range, as well as for adjacent parcels/properties where there is a possibility of undocumented underground features and/or underground tresspass.
Purpose:
To provide location of underground mine workings and potential areas of underground workings for mapping, documentation, monitoring, analysis, and land use planning purposes.

This does not preclude the existence of additional or more recent mine maps that may indicate the presence of more extensive mine workings.

Lineage:
Underground mine parcels were compiled from a number of sources: Minnesota Mining Directory, DNR Lands and Minerals Office, Department of Revenue, RGGS, Meriden Engineering, Great Northern Iron Ore Properties, Iron Range Research Center (Iron World), Hibbing Taconite, USS KeeTac, and MinnTac, Arcelor Mittal, Cliffs Natural Resources and Eveleth Fee. Mine parcel features were snapped to survey control points where available and digitized from mine maps that where geo-referenced to survey control points if survey control points were not available.
