The Mesabi Range Underground Mine Properties coverage contains the documented footprints of natural iron ore underground mine properties on the Mesabi Range located east of the Itasca/St. Louis county line.

To provide location of underground mine properties for mapping, documentation, monitoring, analysis, and land use planning.

Mine property features were snapped to survey control points where available and digitized from mine maps that where geo-referenced to survey control points if survey control points were not available.
Lineage:
Underground mine properties were compiled from a number of sources: Minnesota Mining Directory, DNR Lands and Minerals Office, Department of Revenue, RGGS, Meriden Engineering, Great Northern Iron Ore Properties, Iron Range Research Center (Iron World), Hibbing Taconite, USS KeeTac and MinnTac, Cliffs Natural Resources, Arcelor Mittal and Eveleth Fee. Mine property features were snapped to survey control points where available and digitized from mine maps that where geo-referenced to survey control points if survey control points were not available.
