Title:
Terrestrial Invasive Species Observations
Abstract:
Multi-partner effort to record GPS locations of terrestrial invasive species on DNR lands and other locations in Minnesota. Data is downloaded from EDDMapS Midwest (https://www.eddmaps.org/midwest/). Data from EDDMapS includes all data previously collected by the Minnesota DNR and uploaded to EDDMapS in 2016. From 2016 forward data from MN DNR staff was collected directly into EDDMapS. EDDMapS also contains data from other organizations and individuals in Minnesota.
Purpose:
To provide an inventory across DNR administered lands of selected invasive terrestrial species. A multi-divisional effort to collect consistent information accross all DNR administered lands. Provide a planning tool to help identify problem infestions and coordinate an effective response to individual species and locations for control efforts.
Time Period of Content Date:
09/11/2023
Currentness Reference:
Time Period of Content date indicates the date which the user can be confident of accuracy and completeness of the dataset. This inventory is ongoing. Some areas will be inventoried for specific plants one year and then gone through for more detail later. As control treatments are applied, later inventories should show a reduction in numbers of plants.

Use Constraints:
EDDMapS covers the United States and Canada. Some species are native to Minnesota but not native to other areas. EDDMapS pulls information from a variety of sources, such as herbarium records, so it may contain information on records of species that are native to Minnesota. When DNR distributes the EDDMapS data in ArcMap form, some of those records may be present. Do not use the list of species in this dataset as a definitive list of species that are not native to Minnesota.

Section 2: Data Quality
Attribute Accuracy:
EDDMapS pulls in data from a variety of sources, including research grade reports in iNaturalist. iNaturalist allows reporters to obscure the location of their records, and this can result in low accuracy, i.e. very high numbers in the “CoordAcc – Coordinate Accuracy” field.
Logical Consistency:
Sportsman Grade GPS Point Data.
Completeness:
Most DNR units have done a partial inventory of their land base looking for specific plants or at specific locations.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy:
Uncorrected Sportsman grade GPS Point data. Not Averaged. + or - 30 ft. Also see the field CoordAcc or Coordinate Accuracy.
Vertical Positional Accuracy:
N/A
Lineage:
Observation data is held by and processed through EDDMapS. MNDNR processes regular downloads from the EDDMapS database. Information on EDDMapS data can be found at https://www.eddmaps.org/tools/.
