This data layer is the Field Observations component of the Minnesota Aggregate Resource Mapping Program (ARMP) dataset. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The Field Observations layer is a compilation of almost 16,000 field observations associated with Minnesota aggregate resources. Examples may include natural exposures of surficial geologic sediment or bedrock outcrops, artificial and temporary exposures in gravel, borrow, sand pits, or quarries, along road cuts or in excavations and observations of the surface. Aggregates are necessary for the construction of roads and buildings and are costly to transport. The goals of the ARMP include providing a better understanding and responsible use of the state's aggregate resources.
