This data layer depicts the level of Broadband Internet service available. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Broadband internet service is classified by three categories based on download and upload speeds. Served areas have at least 100 Mbps download speed and 20 Mbps upload speed. Underserved areas have at least 25 Mbps download speed and 3 Mbps upload speed. Unserved areas only have access to lower speeds or no access at all. Access to broadband internet is vital for both the communication needs and productivity of citizens and businesses. Availability can affect where citizens and businesses choose to live and operate.
