This data layer depicts the Base Flood Elevations of the Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRM). It was created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. A DFIRM is used to identify areas where flood insurance is required for loans and communities need to administer flood plan regulations. Base Flood Elevations are the water surface elevation (rounded to the nearest foot) of a flood with an annual 1% chance (1 in a 100 year flood). These can offer specific elevation values for land use planning.
