This data layer depicts the Cross Sections of the Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRM). It was created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. A DFIRM is used to identify areas where flood insurance is required for loans and communities need to administer flood plan regulations. Cross Sections identify the locations of surveys that were used to create the hydraulic models that calculate flood elevations and Hazard Zones. These can give important context to a DFIRM for those who want to know more about the model development.
