This data layer identifies the dominant tree species across Northeast Minnesota in 1995. It was developed by Peter Wolter at the Natural Resources Research Institute. The classifications were created using both Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and Multispectral Scanner (MSS) imagery at different dates and in different spectral band combinations in order to observe phenological changes of tree species for identification. Precise forest cover type mapping can assist in analysis and management at broad and fine landscape scales.
