Forest Health Survey – 2018

This dataset shows where tree damage was delineated in aerial surveys in 2018. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Flights occurred from early June to mid-October. The most common disturbers include spruce budworm, eastern larch beetle, forest tent caterpillar, larch casebearer, abiotic cause of aspen decline, arborvitae leafminer, flooding, wind, emerald ash borer, twolined chestnut borer, heavy seed production on red maples, fire, bark beetles on pine, and jack pine budworm. This survey indicates where significant tree defoliation and mortality occurred and aids in monitoring trends in forest health conditions.
