This data layer indicates the level of calcium in well water. It was developed by the Minnesota Geological Survey using data from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. It includes the chemistry of groundwater from 954 water wells that were sampled between 1993 and 1996. Calcium is a naturally occuring metal found in rock, soil and water. Increased levels of calcium and magnesium can result in hard water. However, there are currently no health concerns about calcium levels in Minnesota's groundwater. This geochemical data provides a regional context for exploration and environmental management efforts.
