This data layer is the Impervious Surface component of the 2006 National Land Cover Database (NLCD). It was developed by the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics Consortium, a partnership of multiple federal agencies. The data is based on imagery from the Landsat satellites and has a resolution of 30 meters. The NLCD provides information on land cover and land cover change during the period from 2001 to 2016. The imperviousness of ground surfaces has implications for water runoff, affecting soil, surface water, groundwater, stream conditions, and infrastructure requirements.
