This data layer displays Karst Features such as sinkholes, springs, and stream sinks extracted from the karst feature database of Southeastern Minnesota. The karst features database is maintained by the N.H. Winchell School of Earth Sciences, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and contains karst features mapped over the last 25 years. Karst lands in Minnesota are developed in Paleozoic carbonate and sandstone bedrock. This dataset can be used to inform statistical tests and hypotheses of large-scale patterns in sinkhole distribution and of the formation of sinkholes, as well as inform land-use management and planning and land-use policies and decisions in karst areas of southeastern Minnesota.
