Lakes – Basin Morphology

This data layer is Lake Basin Morphology. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Lake basin morphology is summarized using multiple measures of depth, area, perimeter, and volume. The morphology of a lake governs the physical and biological processes that occur within. Understanding the different measures of morphology and how they interact is important in understanding a lake's ecological characteristics and predicting how susceptible specific lakes are to different types of degradation.
