This data layer identifies land that was acquired using the Environment and Natural Resource Trust Fund (ENRTF). It was developed by the Legislative Coordinating Committee. The ENRTF was created in 1988 and is funded by proceeds from the Minnesota State Lottery. These proceeds can be used "for the public purpose of protection, conservation, preservation, and enhancement of the state's air, water, land, fish, wildlife, and other natural resources" and include land acquisitions. The Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources makes recommendations for these acquisitions. These projects can benefit the environment of the surrounding area and have a positive impact on nearby communities. These data indicate where and how these public resources are being invested.
