This data layer identifies areas that are managed for ruffed grouse by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (sometimes in cooperation with other public land management agencies). These areas are managed to provide forest age-class diversity as excellent habitat for ruffed grouse, woodcock, and other early-successional wildlife species. Ruffed grouse are associated with deciduous and mixed deciduous-coniferous forests in northern and central Minnesota and are a popular game bird.
