This data layer identifies Deer Management Permit Areas. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and is used for population management, harvest analysis, and management mapping. These areas that have similar habitat, land uses, deer populations, and deer hunter distribution. These deer permit areas enhance management by grouping similar characteristics on which management decisions are based within a specific area. White-tailed deer are one of Minnesota's most ecologically, socially, and economically important animal species. Their habitat includes prairies, forests, swamps, woodlots, and agricultural fields in both suburban and rural areas.
