This data layer represents Peatland Watershed Protection Areas (WPAs) associated with Minnesota's Scientific and Natural Areas. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and represents delineations made in the 1980s as part of the Protection of Ecologically Significant Peatlands in Minnesota project. WPAs serve to protect peatland core areas to minimize impacts from adjacent land uses.
