This data layer is the Nearby Population Metric of the Parcel Environment Benefit Assessment Tool (PEBAT). It was developed by the University of Minnesota. PEBAT was created to assist in the prioritization of public land acquisitions in Minnesota. It uses the 40-acre public land survey parcels as summary units and has 11 metrics. The Nearby Population Metric identifies areas that are proximate to populations, with a high score indicating that many people are within a 50-mile radius of an area. Although designed to identify areas that are near large populations, this metric can also be used to identify areas that are geographically isolated from people.
