This data layer is Flooding Frequency Class from the Soil Survey Geographic Database (SSURGO). It was developed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. SSURGO contains information on soils collected by the National Cooperative Soil Survey over the course of a century. Flooding Frequency Class indicates the likelihood of an area to be temporarily inundated by surface water from overflowing streams or adjacent slopes. Areas inundated for very short periods of time after precipitation events are not included. There are six flooding frequency classes ranging from none to very frequent. Areas that are prone to inundation have limited potential for development. Areas that are prone to inundation and have been developed may need extra protection to minimize damage from flooding.
