This data layer is the Gravel Source data from the Soil Survey Geographic Database (SSURGO). It was developed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. SSURGO contains information on soils collected by the National Cooperative Soil Survey over the course of a century. The likelihood of the presence of gravel - natural aggregates that range in size from 2 mm to 75 mm - is indicated by this data using the three classes of good, fair, and poor. Gravel is an important construction material, especially for building roads. A gravel source close to a construction site can make projects more economical by reducing transportation costs.
