This data layer indicates the boundaries of areas in which the state of Minnesota has a Surface Interest of type Acquired. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR). It includes areas that are administered by the MN DNR or Minnesota Counties. Acquired Lands include land which the state has gained ownership through condemnation, purchase, exchange, County Board resolution, a gift, or a US Congressional Grant or similar means. They are most often designated as State Parks, State Trails, State Forests, Aquatic Management Units, and Scientific and Natural Areas. These lands are subject to special rules and regulations regarding use, development, and sale, and are managed for the public good.
