This data layer depicts the Terrestrial Ecological Units (TEU) in the Superior National Forest. It was developed by the US Forest Service. It is a hierarchically stratified classification system of forest units with predicted structure, function, responses, and management opportunities and limitations. Units are mapped based on environmental factors including climate, geology, geomorphology, water, soils, and potential vegetation. The smallest unit level describes community type. Ecological unit delineations provide information for ecosystem management and planning in the Superior National Forest.
