Tree Canopy Cover – NLCD – 2023

This data layer represents percent tree canopy cover (TCC) in 2023 modeled at the 30 meter resolution by the USDA Forest Service. Updated methods for TCC version 2023.5 involve temporal segmentation on annual composites of Landsat and Sentinel-2 imagery, cropland data, and terrain data, and random forest models that are trained using Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) photointerpreted TCC data to predict percent tree canopy cover. This data series can aid in monitoring tree density and coverage dynamics over time.
