Watershed Management Districts and Organizations

This layer depicts watershed districts, watershed management organizations, and country administered water planning boundaries. The Board of Water and Soil Resources maintains this dataset. Watershed districts (WD) are created through a local petition process. Watershed management organizations (WMO) are required by the Minnesota Legislature in the metro area. Where neither exists, water planning is handled by the county (COU). The purpose of these organizations is to solve and prevent water-related problems.
